Website Resources for Writers Part 2

I’m back with part two of website resources for writers! We are fortunate to live with the internet and have access to vast amounts of information. That can be overwhelming, and it can be challenging to know what to search for.

Writing Realistic Injuries: http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~leiafee/ramblings/realistic_injuries.htm

Fight scenes and injuries add stakes to a narrative. They demonstrate that your characters do not have plot armor, but writing a realistic injury you have never suffered can be difficult. The website contains information on the normal range of life signs for humans so that you can start from a correct baseline. Then you can read through details regarding various injuries likely to be a problem for a protagonist. While the webpage doesn’t go into deep detail, it provides a great starting point for evaluating the injuries you’re considering inflicting so you can do more research, if necessary, on a specific symptom.

E.A. Deverell: https://www.eadeverell.com/forwriters/

A brilliant website with massive amounts of resources for writers in the form of worksheets, guides, and, if you’re interested, paid courses. There is no paywall on the worksheets, which range in topic from characters to plot and can help a writer organize their thoughts.

Story Structure Database: https://www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/story-structures/

Containing plot information on books and movies, the Story Structure Database is an archive that allows writers to study the plots of stories and evaluate what they think worked and didn’t work. Each story is broken down in an easy-to-read structure with inciting incidents, major plot points listed separately, the climax, and the resolution. In addition, the website has several options for navigation, including a search tool, alphabetical listings, and listings by genre, making it easy to find what you’re looking for. Many of the stories already include notes on what could have been done to improve the plot.
